Should I pay the extra dough for smart struts for a daily driver? A spring and some strut rods willbe my first rear mods. I have just about settled on a steel spring due to all of the negative posts on composite types. Thanks!
Re: Smart Struts or regular adjustable struts (Eddie 70)
Well w/smart struts you lower the center point of the strut rod and what this does is, it reduces the side load on the bearing assemblies. It will also reduce the wear on the bearing assemblies b/c it's taking some side load off. Smart struts will give you a more even tire wear and improve handling. With them your camber change is less than 1 tenth of a degree over 5-1/2" of wheel travel as opposed to 2 degrees at 2 /12" of wheel travel. Bottom line is it worth it, Yes.
Re: Smart Struts or regular adjustable struts (Eddie 70)
I have had my camber cams move more than once. I have been thinking of going to smart struts myself. I will be following this post closely.
I've had my lock nuts on the adjustable struts come loose more than once.
You really gotta tighten them down ... locktite ... or a little rust to keep 'em in place.
I'm a little put off to pay more for (essentially) an offset bracket.
Plus, some will argue that zero camber change is not as good as it sounds, as
some negative camber can help the tire grab around corners.
