..... anyone know of someone/place in the Dallas area that you'd recommend. Got a worn axle stub with a ring that's disintegrated.... lots of axle play in/out.... also need to get it checked out to make sure nothing else needs repair. Any recommendations are appreciated. Thanks.
That is a good price I would ask him some more questions. I was rebuilding a 72 differential today in fact. I'm using a new set of Tom's 3:08s, new Eaton solid clutches, rebuilt kit, rebuilt yokes, misc things and the parts cost is $520.
What are you getting for $150, just labor? If so then not a bad deal. Usually just a rebuild kit, clutches, and labor run $500-$600 depending who does the work.

Chumzilla, I don't think you can go wrong with VanSteel. I purchased my rear spring, front sway bar and Bilsteins from them and they took care off me. I'm contacting them for my differential parts as well.
I'm considering the local 4x4 shop for rebuild since they are local, rebuild a lot of diffs for both 4x4, race and local car enthusiast. Further, I'm hoping to watch some or most of the work, so I can learn how a differential comes apart and goes back together. I like the idea of dropping my differential, throwing it in the back of my pick-up and running it down to the shop.
Comp, iron center?? I don't know anything about differentials what's an iron center, etc?
