I was thinking about adding an ignition box, specifically the Crane HI-6. I've never run one before and don't know much about them. For you guys that run one of these or something similar, what do you think of them? Are they worth the money? My biggest reason for wanting one is the built in rev-limiter. The motor is 10.5:1 compression 383 rated for 525hp@6200, and I already installed the Pertronix HEI tune-up kit. Thanks for any info
I think the Crane is a knock off MSD 6AL whitch is all I've ever used.
See if the Crane is a multipal spark discharge type, thats why I use MSD.
Also the MSD dose'nt go out like a GM ing. module will.
If you decide to get the MSD unit after reading the above posts get the Digital 6. The standard 6AL does not handle the ignition cutout very well at the rev limit. The digital unit uses less power and shuts off power to the engine at the rev limit in a manor that is easier on the engine.
I am using the Crane HI6. It is a digital box where the MSD 6AL is not digital. It has a built in rev limiter the MSD does not. I have had mine for 5 years and it has worked great. The MSD is a great box also but don't knock the Crane box. If you go with the MSD go with the Digital 6 as said above.
SCCACFA-- The Crane HI-6 is a digital multi-spark discharge.
I looked at both the MSD digital 6 plus and the Crane HI-6, and they both look like very good boxes. But, I'm now leaning toward the MSD because of the start retard for easier starting. My next question is, how do you wire up the MSD box? The Crane box claims to be "plug-and-go" installation.
I have the Accel 300+. It's a lot smaller than the other boxes. Haven't installed it yet, my project is stalled at this point because of the cold weather :banghead:

:iagree:
I am using the Digital 6 box and it rocks.
Have both (MSD in the vette and Crane in the Formula) and the Crane is a better value, digital with built in dial rev limiter that drops random cylinders, can be by-passed just by undoing 2 plugs and connecting the ends plus it is a lot smaller in size.
