Hi Guys,
I swaped the 400ci engine my car had installed when I purchased it for a freshly rebuilt 1969 427 L36 engine.
Now in order to finish the engine part of the resotration I need the following:
alternator brackets, power steering pump brackets, and the ac compressor brackets. Does anyone know where I could find this ones used?
My car has the following: AC, PS
Is this disposition for the belts correct?
Crankshaft pulley groove 1:
crankshaft,waterpump, alternator
Crankshaft pulley groove 2
crankshaft, power steering
OK, I will take a flier at the belt part... :) I will steal this pic from another post. It is from the 67 AIM, not the 68. I THINK (and this thinking bizness is always problematic) the belt config is the same except in 67 the A.I.R. was optional, but in 68 every model vette had A.I.R., so this pic might even be better for you if you dont have your AIR pump and don't plan to install it.....
So, The configuration with A/C, AIR, and P/S is bottom row, far right. If you do not have AIR pump, the similar configuration is middle row on the left. :) MJ
Wow, that was a great post. thanks a lot for the info!
Now I only need to find the pulleys and brackets. Any idea where I can get them other than Ecklers? I checked their page and it sums up several hundreds for everything! Almost 1/8 of the price I paid for the engine.
Thanks again
A 68 big block with power steering has a unique set of brackets and pulleys that are difficult to find but available. Corvette Central has all the brackets as do others (many are discontinuing their big block power steering conversion). The pulleys are another matter. The original BB PS pump uses a two groove, press on pulley. This is availabe for $100!!!!!!!!! I have been looking for a while and have not come up with anything. Let me know if you find a less expensive source.
The A/C compressor brackets come up on ebay occasionally--I just watched a set go for $114 this evening (the auction was badly listed and that's probably about as low as you'll find them). That's still a hell of lot less than you'll pay for repro from the vendors. Nice thing about them is it's the exact same bracket for every year from 66-74, both 427 & 454, so they're not an uncommon set of parts.
When I swapped out the 350 and installed a 427 in my 66 I ran into the same problem of finding used brackets. Used orginal = what are you willing to pay. I ended up buying new reproduction and that was WOW WOW, $$$$. Damm, that pill was hard to get down. :D
I restored my 68 BB at one time, complete with AIR etc. The above poste are correct. Vettes have ther own brackets, pulleys. DO NOT TRY onther passenger cars
Call PARAGON Corvette parts (search GOOGLE).
Good news: They have EVERY pulley/bracket you need, and the correct one you need
Bad news: They are pricey
Also try, beleive it or not, GM PERFROMANCE PARTS, resto parts menu. They have ALOT of stuff that bets any price out there
