I went from reading about one or 2 conversions per yr. to about three p/ month???? Now the $3000- $5000 to do it is a little too much as I dropped nearly 35k on the down on the new house/ Vette/ furniture/ laptops etc. but IT'S IN THE WORKS!!!!
By God if we all have to sacrifice a few bucks towards the Cali 5spd. Charity (not to be confused with the Cali Memorial Brothel) then by God we'll do it. I just read Signguys post and dreamed of getting on the freeway, now at 45mph and accelerating but wait I still haver another gear left!!
Or going to LA or Vegas with those C5 guys who cruise control at 80MPH. Right now I can't keep up, well not for long without hitting a gas station.
3500 RPM now is 78MPH
with TKO-1 3500 RPM is 107 MPH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(3.70 rear gears and 235/70/15 tires)
Mine has cost me 2500. I got it from a forum member for a slight discount (he decided to go another route) but it had everything from Keisler in it exept the shifter.
I'm definitely with you. I think a 5 speed conversion would be a very nice change to the drivability of the car. I have the same gearing as you so I'm usually running 4000 to 4500 on the open road. It makes me a little concerned about the wear on the engine so an overdrive would be nice. If I go to a 5 speed it will be the G-Force gear set in a T-5 because I want clutchless shifting. I just have to see if Keisler will sell their shifter separately.

Still got the T-5 in mind? I have mine sitting on my work bench but I keep thinking a more direct bolt in would be SO much easier. The shifter mod doesn't look to complicated, finding someone with the skills and tools will be for me. Maybe some with a Keisler unit can dimension it out for us?

I still have to figure this out for mine too. Bought my TKO via a GP before the Keisler conversion came out... and its still sitting in the box on the garage floor (I'm in the middle of a frame-off). I have access to a machine shop at work that I will hopefully be able to utilize. Fevre, I'll let you know if I come up with something.
If you want we could use my T-5 as a guinea pig, I already started to mod the tail for more clearence so if it gets a f'd up no biggie. Only problem I see is the shifter may not be in the same location for the T-5 as the tremec so it may need a diff set up.

This was one of my main reasons for getting the tranny. I have 3.36 gears and 255/60/15 tires. Now 80 MPH is approx. 2000 RPM. Sweet. Now it has the long legs to keep up on the Interstate. Our little club does a lot of long cruises and this should help to keep up. Plus we may take the car on little getaways when the weather gets a little warmer. GO FOR IT!!!
My 6 speed was the best modification I made, period. A five speed would be a bit less hassle and very much worth the effort. Whether it is something in the water or a contagion from something else, you are only showing the first symptoms. The disease also requires a BB when fully developed. The 327/350 doesn't have any extra ooomph when cruising with a long geared rear end. It's like flooring a 4 cylinder Honda at the same speed.
Peter Paul and Mary were going to do a remake of the song, "Where Have All the Small Blocks Gone?" But one of the guys recently died before they could pull it off.
here you go. http://www.g-forcetransmissions.com/tran_gt-5.asp
They make different gear sets for the T-5 that are stronger and have different ratios available. The .59 OD is worth it. I think 2 OD gears in a 6 speed is worthless (T-56) and the ROD is just so bulky.
I put a TKO in my Can-Am and boy do I love it !!! Got a 454 with about 450 hp with 308 rear gears ..... when I went to Carlisle in August I got 17 mpg. When I'm going 70 mph, I'm only taching 1800 rpm ---- so according to the gearing formula, if I crank it up to 6000 rpm ---- I'll be going 234 miles per hour --------------------------- You know I'll never see it ! It's nice to be cruising the freeway at a high idle ! Rick
