Default More transmission questions

Hi gang,

A while back I posted a thread on swapping the TH 350 in my 79 for either a 700R4 or 2004R. To make a long story as short as possible, I have decided to go for the 2004R. Jvette73 was so kind as to provide me with a comprehensive list of transmission codes which helped me identify the 2 transmissions I recently acquired. One is a 'BY' which apparently was used behind 252 CID V6's. The other is an 'OM' which was used behind Oldsmobile 350 diesels according to Jvette73's code list.

NOW comes the question! The 'BY' transmission has a 10 bolt pattern which I do know will bolt up to my 350 SBC. BUT the 'OM" is a 6 bolt pattern. I am told that the 'OM" box will bolt up by just omitting the 2 top bolts. I have great confidence that one of you young guys will jump at the chance to set an old guy straight on this point! What ever happened to the 239 flathead anyway…….. hmmmmmm ? Gotta go... I think my alzheimers is kicking in again...

Thanks,
Ken

Think you need one of these:

Might find it somewhere else, just did a quick google search and that was the first to come up.
