I know this topic has been here many times but I can't seem to get the search to work here on the forum.
I just bought a pair of 97 Camaro rear seat belts to put in my 76. They have the large retractors on one end, a triangle shaped bracket sliding up and down the belt, the buckle then a bracket to bolt down.
How do I mount these things? Does the retractor mount to the pillar? the floor?
Thanks for your help here. I am very mechanically inclined but I'm puzzled with this one.
The triangle shaped steel piece is removed and discarded. I used a hacksaw to cut it. The roller part goes behind the seat, the other end under the seat.
Pics would be very helpful. And thanks so far guys.
If I attach the retractor to the wheel well and the other end to the floor, what attaches to the pillar post to create the shoulder harness?
Checkout the corvettefaq site...goofy grin wrote an article about installing them in a vert but should give you an idea and he took lots of pictures.
The retractor mounts in the rear compartment. You have to bend the metal tab on the bottom of the retrator up. Then the other end of the belt mounts to the floor under the seat closest to the door. Mount the reciever on the opposite side of the seat to the trans tunnel and you should be in business. Sorry I don't have any pics right now.
Where are you guys getting these belts from? I keep searching Ebay and coming up empty handed.
Any bone yard/salvage company will have em. Very simple install. No fabrication necessary. Only problem I've seen guys run into is trying to pass the belt through the seat bezel in early 70's sharks.

That's where I got mine, paid $9.99 and $11.00 shipping. They're very nice and dark gray.
In the parts and accessories and click to get what's in the message body also, I typed in "camaro seat belts" use the space between seat and belts. There's a pair on there now for $24.99.
For pics of mine check interior link on my web page. The retractor attaches on the wheel well where the shoulder strap is. The buckle neededs to be removed to get the strap through the seat openning. The lab belt retractor is removed replaced with the metal plate on the new seatbelt. I had to flatten the bracket to get it to fit. The hole in the bracket may need to be drilled out a little for the bolt to fit.
1. Take out the seats and pull back the carpet (remove plastic cover).
2. Remove the lap and shoulder strap and retractors.
3. Bolt new retractor to wheel well.
4. Remove receiver from tunnel.
5. Remove buckle from new seatbelt
6. Flatten mounting bracket and string through seat back (replace buckle).
7. Attach bracket to floor plate with shoulder bolt (string through cutout in carpet).
8. Replace carpet and seat (make sure seatbelt lays flat when inserted in receiver).
My ISP changed, but I still do have all the pictures for that thread. I told CorvetteFaq that they needed to grab the whole thing with the pictures, not just link to the thread...

I found mine on ebay also. Cost me $40 w/shipping, but that still sounds reasonable compared to other sources quoted at even more. Only thing is they are a charcoal grey and my interior is black. However this and a tan"ish" color are your only choices. (so I've heard) Overall they are better than the ones that are in the car now. The drivers side doesn't work at all.
