In my '79 rebuild I'm replacing the body mounting cushions as a preventative measure, but it looks like this may be more difficult than I thought. All running gear is out of the car. Any suggestions on how to make this easier? Pulled out 6 cushions bolts. Two had severe rust and the metal in one cushion fell out as dust! So now I'm committed.
Re: Replacing body mount cushions HELP!!! (madman)
Hey - you got 6 out - without cutting or burning them out - pretty good.
The #1,#2,and #3 bolts on my 70 came out with a ratchet. The #4 was frozen
to the nut - which simply spun around in the nutcage inside the body.
I cut the heads off with an angle grinder to get those off.
Re: Replacing body mount cushions HELP!!! (Chumpzilla)
VBP is starting our 79 project car next week. New crate motor, interior, brakes, suspension, steering, wheels, body work, paint and so on...............
I am pricing all components out right now to see if I am going to come in at or under budget ( yeah right ! ). We will have weekly updates on our webpage about this starting pretty soon, script and photos. The body is getting pulled starting this weekend and then one weekend off for the Super Bowl and then back to the grind. Hope all your projects go well ! Good luck !
Re: Replacing body mount cushions HELP!!! (madman)
Red Wing and Smokehouse helped me in the right direction on this job. I don't know where you need help but the rear bumper will have to be disconnected at the frame. Four bolts on each side at the energy absorbing assembly have to come out. Steering rag joint has to be split. Front bumper on the 79 i'm not sure. You might have to disconnect something. Ground wire in front of #1 mount driver side has to be disconnected. Body will have to be jacked up about 2-3" to get the mounts in. I have my driver side done now. I'm a slow worker. Any other info I can provide E-mail me. Tom
Looks like REDWINGVETTE'S web page has a good outline on what I need to do. Just afraid a rebuild to have a nice driver will turn into a frame off restore.
WILL IT NEVER END..... :smash:
