Default Stupid Question - Steering Rag Joint

Here is a stupid question. Do I remove the plastic red things before installing the rag joint? If I remember right, they are spacers and should be removed after installing the rag joint in the column, just not sure

TIA

The plastic spacers "force" the steering column flange to be central to the stop pins on the flexible coupling. Then you tighten all the steering column and flange attachments. Then you can form a hook with some heavy wire and yank the spacers out.
