Seems to be a real reasonable price. I wonder why that is? :skep:
Too bad I'm also overloaded with other projects that require my resources right now. Perhaps down the line sometime. However even when I can get back to the vette, it has too many other things that need attention first so the Muncie will have to do for now. :yesnod:
I researched a bunch of these that are selling on ebay. They are just generic Tremec 5 speeds with no mods to fit the Corvette console. Also they have nothing else but the trans. If you are not worried about how it will fit the console and can make your own driveshaft and some of the other small parts it is not a bad deal. If you are a fabricator and have the resources and time this is the way to go. If you want a so called bolt in and all the parts the Keisler is the way to go. Either way you will have a 5 speed and doing this :steering:

there are atleast 10 other custom fab parts you would need to make this tranny work.
Kessiler aint perfect, but the the only one that will get you in the ball park.
BTW i spoke with at 55/56/57 old chevy guy. He puts TKO in all of his rods at his shop. he said "unless you pay $200 for the tranny, $3000 is a fair price for a kit. Every car usually needs about $1500 in cusrom fab parts."
Is this transmission a 3550 or a TKO...there is a difference.. I originally bought a 3550 for my car - externally it is identical - has the same gear ratios - the difference is the strength and cost of the transmission.
I dissagree with the thought that there is a minimum of $1500 in modifications for the install, though that would almost certainly be the case if you paid someone to do all the work for you.
I got my TKO for slightly less than this price. it included the speedo gear and adapter, 4 high quality bellhousing bolts and a backup light switch.
Parts required for my convesion was
Shorten driveshaft - $150
Slip yoke - $65
cut out and modify crossmember - $110
Sawzall rental - $30
Misc Nuts @ bolts - $25
GM synchromesh gear lube - $35
Shift **** - $35
Shift Boot - $13
Spare center console plate - $15 E-bay
Misc neoprene & insulation - $20 pep boys
90 degree speedo cable adapter - $90 Ecklers
Tranny mount bracket & mount - $90
This is like $678 on top of the cost of the trans.....now none of its billet...and all the hours spent were my own....its not a terribly hard mod to make if you take your time, but it can be done for a reasonable sum.
