Default Close headlights manually

Is there a way to safely close the headlights manually?

Thanks...

Yes there is. The headlamp linkage is kind of a knee action You have to reach up under the front end and find the "knee" in the linkage. If I remember right move it a little towards the rear and the headlamp will come down. You will see the "knee" it should have 4 springs attached to it to aid in the raising and lowering of the headlamps.

Someone else will reply with more detail - but the answer is yes. I've done it. You have to get under the nose of the car with a flashlight and look at the springs and levers that move the light assemblies. One lever has to be pushed back, like over center, and it will release the unit and the light assembly will close. You might have to push it down a little. You can also push up the closed light from below. Hope this helps.

May I hijack this thread and ask a similar question:
Is it possible to open the headlights with the engine off?
Just done simply try to push them up but they seemed stuck, it's a -72 btw.

If you reach up under the front, you should be able to feel the springs that hold the mechanism open/closed. Find one of the springs and pull straight down. I can't remember which spring, I've done it by feel too much to remember which it is.

If you still had the chrome bumper you can reach under the bumper (above the grill) and lift the headlight assembly a little. you can then get you fingers under the lip and lift it the rest of the way.
With the later front you will have to crawl under the front. It will do no damage to the system because the actuators are vacuum not electrical.
