My T-tops have lots of little scratches in them. I was wondering if I could wet sand them with 2000 grit sandpaper and compound and p[olish them? They are white in color and have a good shine to them, but have many little scratches.
Thanks in advance for any help. I think that if I can do the T-tops then eventually I would like to do the whole car. My hood does not shine as good as it used to.
I dont know if wetsanding with 2000 will help much with the scratches, you would normally need something more agressive. But I dont know what kind of paint you have and how much clear is left to the car. I would gently try 2000 grit, and if it doesnt seem to help, stop, polish and forget about it.
To be safe take them to a body shop and they will do a better job with the buff. Plus they have cutters that will finish better than the stuff you buy at the shop
2000 doesn't seem to be abrasive enough. try 1500 with a DA sander, then put some polishing compound on foam pad and go from there. kinda hard to explain the whole process on writing..i really recommend taking it to a body shop and see what they can do.
If they are very small I'd first try using 3M product called perfect it II
Took out some pretty serious scratches when the neighbor "tapped"
my fender. Took a several applications but worked great !
with that recipe you're pretty much telling him to sand till primer, ALWAYS wetsand by hand if you're trying to polish. I dont trust machines when it comes to sanding

thats what i did to buff my car....but your right..it could go to the primer ...probably not enough clear (if there is clear) plus, i meant a Finishing DA...not nearly as harsh.
