Default Installing front springs

Does it matter how you put back stock springs? I noticed that on one end of the spring their is a notch in the steel. Does this mean it should sit in the lower control arm? Thanks

I just read something here in the last couple days..keep looking...
something about the spring has a slight taper or that the spring will have the turns closer together at either the top or bottom. Search through the threads its on the forum now. You can always try the archives too.

I removed the springs from my 80. I noticed that the space between the spring coils is small at the top of the spring and the space between the bottom coils is a little, (but noticable) wider.

It definitely matters. The spring must be properly seated so the cut end of the coil rests directly in the depression in the lower arm. Also front spring replacement is a dangerous job due to the stored energy. Use the best spring compressor you can get your hands on and lube the threads. I would not recommend you try this without someone assisting whose done it before.
