started missing, tune up time anyway....new plug's, wire's, cap, button & filter...and same thing....missing...broke out timing light and find out no fire on #1 ... rev it up and you get fire!.....other 7 no problems...
is my Ignition Module bad?...or is it my coil?
o ya it's a hei
I had a similar problem a few months ago. I had recently installed an MSD 6AL, Pro Billet Dist. and a Blaster HVC coil. Driving down the road, and all the sudden half my engine stopped firing, weird as hell. At first, I thought maybe I got some water in the fuel.... but that was not the case. Here's how to diagnose an MSD control box:
disconnect the coil wire from the distriibutor
put a spark plug in this wire and ground it
unplug the distributor from the control module (MSD's have a violet, and i think brown wire)
place a jumper on the two wires coming out of the box
turn the ignition to the "on" position
when you pull the jumper off the two wires, the plug should spark. Do it a few times too see if you get a consistent fire, mine was sporadic and not nearly as powerfull as it should have been. Sent it back to MSD, and now it works fine. They told me my problem was a voltage spike, so I installed a capacitor in the power line. Warranty work.... seeing that I had only put about 200 miles on the ignition system when I found myself on the side of the Berlin Tpke.
Hope this helps

I've had 2 modules go bad and both times they stopped working completely. I would just check to make sure you have at least 11.4 volts. Usually a bad coil will start to miss after it gets warm. Sorry I couldn't be anymore help to ya
Dont have the exact specs with me, I'm up at school, all my car stuff is at home. I should probably rephrase and say "oringinal" block and heads.... Its a 350 bored .030 over, w/ machined heads. I had it built by a race engine builder that is pretty well known in these parts, Performance Engines By Billy The Kid out of Torrington CT. It cost a pretty penny, but definatly worth it, this thing hauls... aside from what's inside, Ive got hooker headers, performer RPM intake, and a new Demon 650CFM carb. My ignition is listed up above in my previous post.
Ive been floating around these forums for a while, but hust havn't really posted much. What I can say is that I have answered a bunch of questions of my own just putzing these parts....Thanks to all.
it's just a old stock 350 hei setup in a 84 firebird a buddy has...
