Default E-Brake removal

Pro's and con's of removing the E-brake completely from an automatic? I have had PLENTY of automatics and have NEVER used the E-brake. So, with all the discussions of the E-brake being in the way of larger tires/rims, I think removing the E-brake all together should not present a problem. Again, pro's and con's of doing this please. Thanks in advance. :flag

Only drawback that I can think of is that you could not get a safety to sell. Take it off.

You'll fail state inspections

Are you going to fabricate an E-Brake console without a hole if you take it out????

VanSteel - No state inspections for Georgia (currently live) or Wisconsin (where I will retire).
Silvr77 - Sure. Can't be that difficult.

It sounds like you're mentally committed to this bad idea. Here's some more cons (I can't think of a pro):

Your car will scream "bubba was here," so even if that is the only :smash: on the car, future buyers will be tentative about what other destructive mods there may be.

There could be a hill in your future, or a tranny problem, or a desire to lock up the rear in a powerslide

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Keep the brake. You gain nothing by removing it, even if it doesn't work.

Heck, maybe some day, you'll get bored and decide to fix it.

Could happen?

Doesn't someone make an actuator with a valve that will block off the rear brake line and pressurize the rear brake line only (using the rear calipers as parking brakes)? It seems to me I have seen street rods done this way. I know the drawback would be locked brakes with an electrical failure but you certainly could have a pin that would pull out that would disable this type of brake. Anyone else seen this?

Why? If you want larger rims/tires, you can move the EBrake bracket on the T arm to give you more room. Bad idea. Chuck

If you are thinking about modifying something then you need to understand the design.
The emergency brake is a small mechanical braking system. It will work to stop the car in the event of brake fading, etc.

Yes it's called an adjustable proportioning valve. turn the **** on it and it will lock the rear brakes. just have to remember it's on when you get back in to drive it away.

I would just leave it on. I think it will hurt you more in the long run when you want to sell it.
