Hey - Isn't that the newest addition to the Moroso SCCA racing team ? :jester

Congrats on the purchase ... she looks like a nice starting point for you.
Is it from CT ? Gotta take the body off to look for rust.

Good luck, and don't be a stranger .... maybe even a supporting vendor ?

Thanks for all the nice comments, sorry for the long reply time.

QuickVet, yes it had a bolt in cage, it is now out and the body is coming off this weekend. It will get a new welded in cage.

patsnitrovette, the center cap on the wheels have the initials SEC on them, I do not know what they are.

Solid LT1, we can make you a pan to your specs in our custom department no problem. You are correct about oil control being tough in a road race situation, but I think you will be pleased.

SHAKERATTLEROLL, one of our chassis shop customers is a older gentleman that used to race with the old owner in the SCCA when he lived in Texas. The old owner got sick, and his wife sold it to our customer, and he sold it to me.

Right now the car is gutted, and we are going to take the body off this weekend. The ZZ572 is on the way as well as a 6-speed Tremic trans. We are going to R&R the frame and suspension, put the body back on, put in a new cage, build a similar to stock layout interior, and put it on the street.

You can watch the build up of this car and our other Corvettes on our website at www.morosoracing.com

I hope I made the link work!

Thanks again guys!

Rick

Rick, I went through some SCCA old books that I had stashed in the attic and I could not find anything on your vette. How about dropping the SCCA an email, you might find a chapter member that might recognize the vette. BTW, love that 61 of yours
If you looking for a great product to sell, no one that I know makes a poly/plastic fuel cell that matches the OEM style of the corvettes gas tank and I don't know why? So many year vettes would benefit from that, and I know that Forum members would flock to buy one!!!
Good luck with your search.... :steering:

I love the tubs and the slicks, that's awesome. Are you going to keep it that way? Other than the 572, what are your total plans?

Thanks for the nice comments everyone.

Our plans for the car are as follows:

We are going to take the body off the frame and completely refurbish the frame and suspension. It is gutted now, and will come off this weekend. It has some VBP fabricated control arms that will stay. It is getting 1-1/8 inch front, and 1 inch rear, anti-roll bars. We are going to put coil-over shocks on all four corners and install a power rack and pinion. I am not sure about the brakes yet, but they will be LARGE! The wheels are going to be Budnik “Famosa Dished”. They will be 18x11 with Michelin Pilot Sport 315/30-18 fronts and 18x12 with Michelin Pilot Sport 345/35-18 rears. The tires are almost identical in height and width to the slicks in the picture up top.

The body will go back on the car. It is going to get a chrome-moly roll cage, and we are going to fabricate a complete custom interior, with the exception of a set of leather Sparco “Milano” seats. The interior will be all black.

The engine (which just came in today!) is a GM ZZ572 Big Block Chevy crate engine. It makes 620 hp and 650 lb/ft of torque on 92 pump gas. (Although in the new issue of Pop Hot Rod, they say they dynoed it at 700 hp and 720 torque!) It will be bolted to a Centerforce clutch and a 6-speed Tremec T56 transmission. It will have stainless headers and side pipes made at our shop. It is going to get a large bladder style fuel cell.

We will probably leave the rear bumpers off it. I am not sure if the front bumper should be chrome or body color. I like the look of no headlights, so we will fab some cool ones to go in the front grill areas.

I am not sure about paint yet. It does look good in this scheme. Maybe some sort of charcoal with a very slight bluish tinge.

That is about it, at least until we see what else it needs.

Hi Rick...

I don't have the magazine here with me..I'm traveling....but is that the one that was being raced in Tx? I think they showed it at the track in Bryan Tx?

If so, it seems like they said the engine was built by Judson Massengill's group at the School of Automotive Machinists. I know Jud and all the guys there..they do my machine work. Anyway, you might call him and see if he knows more about it or can put you in touch with old owners to get more info.

The number there is 713-683-3817.

Rick,
About your bumpers... here's what I did: I painted the rear bumpers black and left the front one chrome. I think it looks pretty good.

I really need to get some better pictures this summer, but those two show what it looks like.

Again, thanks everyone for the help and comments!

Corz, swing by, we are here every weekday, and a lot of weekends.

427Hotrod, I have a Vette mag that came with the car. It is a march '99 issue and has this car on the cover. I drag race in the NSCA with Judd and his wife. I called him before I bought the car. Thanks!

Scooter70, Thanks for the pics!

Nice looking, black bumpers, but is that a TRW spring?

Looks like the previous owner belonged to NCCC and campained the car (Time Trials) or an old SCCA racer
