I got your name from someone on the C2 forum who thought you might be able to help me. I was rebuilding the steering column on my 67 and I think I collapsed the steering shaft. I stupidly used the shaft to force out the lower bearing. My question is, do you know the proper length? Can I just pull the two halves of the shaft apart and re-pin them? Any advice would be appreciated.

You are in luck. I just happened to have both drawings of the 1968 standard (non-adjustable) and the telescoping C3 steering columns. The 1968 and 69 columns were the same. Here are the dimensions:
Std Column - the steering shaft sticks out 2.7 inches past the edge of the steel pinch clamp.
Telescoping Column - the steering shaft stick out 2.2 inches past the edge of the steel pinch clamp.
I do not recommend that you try and pin the steering shaft connection. The two shafts are a precision fit and should work adequately after you draw the lower shaft back to its original position.
If for some reason you feel that you have to pin the upper and lower steering shafts in the standard column, I would use some kind of plastic pin so that it can be sheared in the event of a severe frontal impact.
As I look at the telescoping column drawing, I don't think that the steering shaft in this column is pinned.

Thank you for the information. I just assumed the two peices were pinned. I need to pull the two apart until I have the correct length. Do your drawings indicate the total length, tip to tip?

Got mine fitted back together and the clamp at the bottom fit into the indents in the shaft exactly where it was when I started the project. Got the refinished instrument cluster in and now in goes the column. My steering wheel is out getting the cracks filled and should be back by end of next week. Now if the snow would go away I could ---, Oh well, it's not going to go away for a while!!
Thanks again Jim
