Re: Rear Trailing Arm Group Purchase (Pacin'California)
A buddy of mine might have some new ones left. These are the same as the vendors are selling now, made in the USA. I'll see him in a few days if you're interested let me know. I think they are $125 ea plus shipping.

Mr D. and GTR - do the arms come with bushings installed at those prices?
Yes, I got them from Wilcox Corvette 2 Mo. ago, they were drop shipped from Ikerds. Ikerds has them listed for $189.00 now. I must have been in the right place at the right time.
Yes, I think the 4 studs are there too. Probably the same source, how many shops are going to tool up for 20-40 year old limited parts that are already on the market? Don't know if he has any offset arms, just the standard ones. If you're interested I see how many are available.

Studs do not come with them ($114.95 from Willcox/Ikerds). Dr. Rebuild has the stud kits. Each does one wheel for $8.00. Others were much more expensive ($20 min from DR though).
Just bought T/A's for my 63 and had a friend do the bearings after I cleaned everything up.

There are different vendors that build their own assemblies. Honestly, and I understand that a lot of you might not know this b/c you don't see or hear what I hear, you get what you pay for.
Ask the vendor how do they set up the assemblies.
Do they go by factory specs.
What kind of bearings do they use.
Do they put all the rebuilt parts in jigs and mic everything out.
FYI. If they set them up to factory specs, which most of the other vendors do, expect to have your t-arms rebuilt again. Most cars built w/factory specs were wrong from the factory.
I used Van Steel Ta's (before I went to Guldstrand 5 Links) in both my C3s. Absolutely no problems with the Van Steel products. Great prouct with great after sales service.

Well Dan, I guess I owe a reply since you're referring to me by quoting my post?
The arms I spoke about are the ones I used on my 69 and they fit fine. They're made in the USA I was told. In fact they were heavier gauge then the originals I had. Like I said I don't know how many shops are fabricating these arms but doubt very many. The price of these arms had dropped from $175 2 years ago to around $120 or less now.
As for the bearings I setup my own and have setup friends. I use Timken bearings andgrind the spacers to fit. I set them up to .0015"-.002" end play dry(spindle oil) and either turn the rotor/sppindle as one or shim the rotor to under .003" TRO. I can't comment on how other shops rebuild their spindle bearings. Judging from what I've seen on some cars, you are correct, there's a lot of Bubba's out there. I wonder how many "mechanics" know how to use an indicator or micrometer? This post wasn't on setting up bearings, but rather on new arms.
Lastly, this is not a flame on you or your business. You have a fine business and I have no problem with you or your services. I just put out the information because I had access to the parts and this is supposed to be an open forum? I'm not in the auto parts business anymore but certainly know a few people who are. If no one wants info on this that's fine with me.

Sorry if you took it in a way that it was directed toward you. It wasn't. A lot of folks think that if you buy something from one guy, it's going to be the same at another. Not true. In this business it's very hard to find quality parts and if you don't rebuild your own, it's hard to find people to do quality work. I just wanted it to be known that not everyone has or uses the same products from one source. With me being in the business I see a lot of, excuse me "crap", that other people try to sell. If I could only tell you guys half of the story behind some, I know you would look the other way. I appologize if I affended you in any way.
Currently there are 2 well known suppliers of bare T-Arms. If they are from the East than they are good US made arms. If not from them, I personnally wouldn't use them only because I know how the arms are made, welded and hold up.
It's kind of hard being on the forum a lot. There is a lot you should know about the quality of work you get and buy but I can't say anything about anyone but my company and I.
FYI. If they set them up to factory specs, which most of the other vendors do, expect to have your t-arms rebuilt again. Most cars built w/factory specs were wrong from the factory.
Understood. My friend who did them has been doing Vettes for over 20 years. He could set them up with a wiggle method and they would last longer than the car. I trust him.
You guys did my 78 4 years ago. I've never had any problems whatsoever and they still look great.
Joe..
ps: How's my Steering Box and Control Arms doing? :D
