'76 headlight switch
Can anyone tell me how to remove the headlight switch? The dash is apart to the point where I can get to the switch, but can't see how to remove the plunger and the unit. The rheostat hasn't worked properly for some time, either the dash lights are on or off, and since I'm into the dash this far, I'm going to replace it. Also, do you think that this is the reason that the left hand dash lights go completely out and the seat belt light stays lite?

There is a little (tiny) spring-loaded button on the body of the switch. When you depress this button it will allow you to pull the on/off stem completely out. The rest is self-explanatory. Your dash lighting problem is most likely a bad ground, but could be the rheostat. The seat belt light should time off, the timer has probably failed, suggest searching junkyards for that part, most GM's of the same (give or take a few) years probably use the same timer.
