Everyone thanks for the help on the heads a few posts ago. Looks like that the vortech heads are the winner. According to the GM performance book Only certain manifolds will work. I was wondering if any of the quality aftermarket will work ( holley, etc ... ). Also what kind of clearance issues am I going to run into on a stock 74 hood. Again thanks in advance.

Missed the thread on the heads......but Edelbrock has the Performer dual plane for the Vortec cast iron heads......these are good for idle to 5500rpm....
Re: **** Which manifold will work ??????? (Ricks95)
..........I went to edelbrock's website and thay stated that manifold #2116 would not fit under a stock corvette hood........
.....yeh, that's a weird one because the standard Performer will fit under the hood.....maybe it has something to do with the raised intake ports on the Vortecs????
You might try to get a direct response from Edelbrock because I thought the '74's had an induction hood on them that would give a little more room than a 69-72 hood.......
.......you could use a drop base air cleaner, or if you have one of those you could use a K&N type 2 inch air filter (although I'm not a fan of a 2 inch filter)....
....I think you're going to have to find out how much taller the Vortec heads and Performer Vortec manifold is over stock.......it may just fit.......
Re: **** Which manifold will work ??????? (Ricks95)
You will definitely need a high rise hood for clearance. I have theVortecs, Holley Street Avenger Carb and Edlebrock (ED7116) intake on my 78. I have an aftermarket L-88 hood and just have enough clearance. I couldn't use the stock air cleaner so I went with a two inch oval K&N set up. I have to admit I had reservations about this set up but the end result was well worth it. It's producing unbelievable power.
