Default Temp Sensor Modification

The temp sensor I must use to match my gauge is just a bit large to fit inside the fitting I must use to adapt to the block.
If I grind/file the sensing end down a bit, will that affect the sensor operation?

The sensor is a bi-metalic material. The part that you are grinding is a cover for the material. Do not grind on it.
Using an adapter should not be a problem as long as you don't have an air bubble in the adapter.

I just put in my 78 a new "04" ZZ4 create engine. Had the same problem. I had to use the original heat sensor for my gauge. ZZ4 has a very small sensor and would peg my temp gauge My only option was. There is a plug on the intake manifold on the front left. Put the original sensor there or into your goose neck above the thermostat. The temp will be 15 to 20 degree cooler. But, thats better than grinding the original and not knowing if it will work or over heat the engine.
