I've bought a set of Deluxe Wheelcovers for my '69 427/400.
I knew, that they weren't the original Vette-covers (RPO P02) because of their flattened center; - so I hat the opinion, that they were the Pontiac-style covers. Nevertheless they should fit a standard-Vette-wheel.
When I tried to fix them on my standard rallye-wheels (trimrings and centercaps removed) I found out, that they are approx. 2" less in diameter and won't fix on my wheels :(
Now I try to find out, to which car they could belong.
The guy whom I've bought the covers from, had the covers installed on his '70 Vette when he bought the car brand new 1970 in Germany as an import-car. He swears (and I believe him) that the covers had been on the 15" wheels that were installed on the Vette when he bought it.
Do you know about a different wheel-style with 15" diameter but smaller inner rim?
Those "turbine" covers could be found across the GM platforms with the only difference being the cover diameter and the center cap. They came in 14" and 15" rim diameters and would fit any matching 14" or 15" GM rim. There were no oddball rims so if the covers don't fit your 15" rims they are for 14" rims. My guess would be Camaro covers.
Re: Unknown Deluxe Wheelcovers (Love My 72 and 77)
GM car lines offered the Turbine wheelcover as a delux option. The only difference between covers is their size and the center cap (logos and either raised or flat). The center cap is easily changeable so as long as the cover diameter is appropriate for the rim size, all you have to do to convert Caprice covers to Corvette covers is change the center cap ($50.00 per cap). I've personally seen these covers on Camaros, Caprices, Monte Carlos, and even Buick Rivereras. I'm sure that just scratches the surface.
