I am going to have to get my driveshaft balanced and new Solid Spicers put in, what would it cost to have a reputable speed shop do this? I am also going to replace the u-joints on the half-shafts too while i'm at it. The next question is which Spicers will I need to get for my 76 auto. Any advice for the removal of the drive shaft is welcome. Thanks in advance.
Removeall of the driveshaft is simple. I use a 7/16 1/4 drive socket with a very long extension (at least 18") instead of a box end little by little at the pumpkin end. If you deal with a good machine shop ask him where to go to have it balanced. I have a place by me called Driveline Specialties and their name says it all. They balanced my aluminum driveshaft and they are going to shorten it and rebalance it very soon once I get my new trans.
I was surprised to find a place near me that specializes in driveshafts.
For those in the Manchester NH area - **John's Shafts 'n' Stuff**
They did a nice job fixing up my 4WD front shaft - welded on a new spline
and set me up with a new slip-joint/ujoint -- all under $100.
Ask around the local parts stores and garages for a shop near you.
