I recently bought a 69 with numerous small problems. I fixed most of them, but the windshield wiper has me stumped. The door opens and closes fine, but the wipers don't budge. I installed a new switch and I have power across the fuse. I want to check for power at the motor, but I am afraid to just start sticking my test lamp on terminals and short something out. Does anyone have advise on which terminals are what on this motor ? I appreciate your input.
Yep, good place to start. There's a wire coming out of the harness on the passenger side that usually bolts to the manifold or somewhere. This wire is very often connected to the starter by accident.
First thing to check is the wiper override switch. It is located under the steering column, right between the vacuum pull down switches that override the wiper door and headlights. The **** should be roundish (it has flat spots aound it). If this is off, the wipers will not work. If the switch is missing, find the plug for it and jumper the terminals. This switch is made so you can stop the wipers in mid swing and change the blades.
And the second thing to check is the door limit switch on the right side under the wiper door. With the door open it should have power on both sides.
You will not short out anything with a test light.
