IF my hood on the pace car for 1978 says L-82 should i trust it? The job looks original enoug hand the guy says its original but i have never actually checked to see if it wa sa l82 or l48 or the like. What do yall think? :(
If it is the origial motor then the last 6 digits of the serial number will be stamped on the block. If it is the original motor, then the 5th digit of the serial number will tell you what engine it is. If the 5th digit is 4, the motor is an L-82. If the 5th digit is an L, then the motor is an L-48. Also if it is an original L-82 car it will have small L-82 lettering on the tach.
I would check further than the hood emblem to be sure. The hood of my 75 has L -82 emblems, but its a L-48. Someone even went so far as to change the console plate to one that shows L-82 also. Guess either the owner wanted others to think it was more than it was, or they were trying to fool someone during a sale. When I bought it the seller didn't say it was, but didn't say it wasn't either.
So anyways, no, don't trust the hood emblems alone! :nonod:
The hood says l-82, but i willl have to wait till i have the car with me to check the tact.. i dont remember that on it though..............
