Default Simple Green, No Thanks

I have seen lots of refrences to this stuff here and wonder if most folks
realize this stuff is corrosive. Try it yourself if ya have some around do a metal test. I believe the fine print states the corrosive nature of the stuff.
It does work great, but if the aviation industry has outlawed it I consider that a good indicator. Just my .02

I was using Crystal Simple Green today in fact. I had it mixed at 10% and heated to 110-120* in a wash tank. I used it with a scrub brush. I washed the TH400 case in it. I found it removed the lighter soils but not the heavy stuff. I then washed it in "Ozzie juice" which NAPA sells. This removed the heavy soils but not the imbedded dirt. I know both products will attack aluminum if left on too long so finally I rinsed off the case inside and out in a 55 gallon drum with tap water, and compressed air to dry. The case is clean now with only oxidation on it. It works ok, but rinse it off.

I use good ol' dish soap with a nylon pad for the light stuff (lots of it)
For the really heavy areas a bit of Ispyropal alcohol or a good steam cleaning !
I try to stay away form the solvents.

hummmmm....... I never even thought about that :banghead: I read off another forum that it works great on the interior. So I sprayed it and used a sponge, soft side ofcourse, and MAN was it awesome  . However, now that you say all that I may just not be cleaning the interior with it anymore. I used it on the inside above the seatbealt holder. It worked well getting the dirt off, looked almost like mold :cry but after a few good wipes/pushes with the elbow grease it came out pretty well.

Now what I wanna know is what you all are using to keep your interior looking spotless........ :jester

Ditto for spray Carb cleaner. I use engine cleaner like gunk for the easy stuff, spray a shot of carb cleaner for the tough stuff...

I wouldn't make a blanket condemnation of Simple Green or anything else. The key is appropriate use. I wouldn't use it full strength unless I meant it. And I'd certainly test the spot first. And actually rinsing the stuff off doesn't hurt, either.

I think if you left White Rain conditioner on too long, you'd damage something.

I've used Simple Green and the like on my interior, and it worked great. So does kerosene (or mineral spirits), on the really tough, greasy spots. It just depends on what kind of dirt you're trying to get out, and what you're trying to remove it from. Aluminum can be pretty testy, when it comes to a lot of stuff, so obviously, I'd tread more gently here.

But all in all I like Simple Green, a lot.
