A cheap solution to play CD's In your C3 Vette with the original Delco Am/Fm Radio. I went to Target stores and bought a portable cd player and a wireless FM Modulator for a total price of $34.00. Just plug the modulator into the headphone jack on the cd player and tune your FM radio to one of 4 frequencys (find an unused one) and it plays great, plus I keep my original radio intact and no hard wiring is needed.
I got an MP3/CD changer for Xmas. Installed it behind the seats. Only had to run a cable to behind the radio. Jacked the radio antenna into a small junction box that came with the changer. Jacked the radio into the junction box. Presto, 10 disc MP3/CD's. BTW, I can store about 1,500 MP3 tunes on 10 CD's.
I bought them at Target Department Store in their electronic dept. Fm
Modulator brand is SI LINK it was $19.95 it has 4 selectable FM frequencies
and the cd player is GPX it was on sale for $12.95. But the FM modulator
will work with any CD player with a Headphone jack or a cassette player. So
if you have a player already your in business cheaper .
I want to keep the original stereo in the dash( when I find one) and hook up my own stereo. I was looking for a Stereo deck that I can put in one of the storeage compartments that has a wireless (RF) remote.
They are pricey though. This may be a good solution.
I am aware of those new bezels, Unfortunately they cost about $200 plus the cost of a Din Stereo and require taking the whole instrument cluster out of the car to install. I wanted to keep my car original and not go through the hassle and expense to install a new radio. I am very happy with the results I got with this economical setup.
I got my 6-gig Jukebox for $100 from a friend (you can get them for less on ebay these days). I haven't used it in a while, but might have to get in on this setup. I didn't know you could get an FM modulator like that!
I have a 10g Creative Labs MP3 jukebox. I have it hardwired into the dailydrivers radio ( no crappy FM modulators or tape adaptors) it sounds better than anything I have ever heard.
The plan is to be able to switch between the mp3 and the head unit DIN or not. but NOT the factory unit.
Have you HEARD an FM ( not stereo ) radio in a '69? :skep:
I installed a Secret Audio system in my 1978's storage compartment, used the original speakers in the rear, added the CD player. Works GREAT and you don't see it!
Jukeboxes have front and rear outs, and "EAX" sound processing, I bet that could lead to some amazing sound... I think I'll just opt for the aux-in port on the front of a new DIN-sized radio, when I get around to that, maybe an FM modulator in the short term. What's the quality like? Noticeable above exhaust noise? :jester
RUX: You make a good point that I overlooked. Since my jukebox was an Christmas present, my car has been garaged and I've never heard it with the motor running. I've got MAD's chambered duals and I hope I can hear the darn tunes while crusin' after this harsh winter breaks here in NW Ohio!!!
Rux,
I have the stock exhaust on my car so I have no problem with the exhaust drowning out the sound. The quality of sound is as good as the best FM Stereo reception. I am not an audio perfectionist but it sounds great to me. Only thing I would have done differently was to get a portable player that played mp3's also as I have over 600 mp3's.
