Default Pushrod length question

Can someone concur with my thinking that pushrod length is in direct correlation with valvetrain geometry. In other words a pushrod that is +- .15" will not make that much difference in overall geometry.
Thanks....
Eric

.050" can make a big difference in the relation of where the rocker rides on the valve tip so it is very important to have the correct length pushrods.

so you are saying, the length centers the rocker on the valvestem. and if it is off a little you would get undue wear. hmmm
Thanks...

Yep, that's the deal. Are you trying to solve a particular problem or are you just theorizing?

Do you know the "marker pen on the valve tip" trick to see the contact pattern?

you can get a push rod length guage for $15. comes with a plastic rocker and adjustible pushrod. easy to do. insert rod, install rocker, adjust rod, remove and measure length, order right size rods. Brian

Reason I was asking is I have installed Trickflow 23 degree heads and a Trickflow cam on my L48. I had some factory lengh hardened pushrods on the shelf that I installed. Check me if I am wrong since it has been a while (still have not gotten to the running stage) factory length is 7.8" anyway.. I remember some documentation on Trickflow's website (that I can't find for the life of me now) recommending 7.85". Of course in my wisdom.. I said.. i don't need no stinking new pushrods and installed what was on hand. Now I am second guessing myself about the .05".
What was this market test you are referring to??
Thanks...

the marker test is simple. remove the rocker, and cover the valve tip with ink, re-install the rocker and roll the motor over several times. the "wear pattern" will polish the ink off wear the roller contacts the valve. ajusting the push rod length will move the wear area back and forth, the right length will center the wear pattern and extend the life of the valve guides. :iagree: That's the marker test I was reffering to. You are correct that the stock pushrods are 7.8" (actually they are 7.794"). For proper geometry and wear patterns it is important to have the rocker arm centered on the valve tip.

Based on rocker brand, seems I have had/seen a chart showing with 1.6 ratios but this is on their website:
