Hi guys, I'm building an engine from scratch for my 76. I just received my 4 bolt main block bored .060 over, Speed Pro .200 dome pistons and matching rings. I am reading and searching for an affordable standard stroke crank to use. I hope to be producing 450+ HP when finished.
Does anyone out there know of or have experience with and acceptable and affordable crankshaft?
I've been reading up on balancing also. How much is too much balancing for a weekend driver with this type of horse power?
Thanks in advance.
If you are buying a new crank I would go with atleast a 5140 forged unit. Summit offers a few that are affordable, by buddy picked a a 383(400 crank with turned journels) from Summit and is very satisfied.
Forged is great but a nodular iron crank is also good. Eagle makes some very affordable cranks for under $200 and they should be a good to at least 500 hp. Do a google search for cranks and you should find a ton avail from diff sources.
BTW Def get the assembly balanced if you want the eng to live a long happy life and not vibrate your butt numb. :)
