Default Socket for adjusting steering box

Received the KD 1/4" inch pound torque wrench today to use for
adjusting the steering gear box. What socket size should be used
to fit on the end of the worm shaft to adjust the steering gear box?

Have removed the gear box from the car and removed the rag joint
from the worm shaft. Since the worm shaft is splined with a flat spot,
have not found a socket that fits well.

For the 63-early 69 round shafts I use a 11/16 12 pt socket.

For the late 69-82 boxes I use an old rag joint that I stripped down and welded a nut to. I couldn't find a socket to fit the flat shafts.

Idea: A six-point socket, that just fits over the shaft. Place a small piece of
metal that fits snuggly between the point of the socket and the flat of the shaft.
This should work, if you can get a close-fitting socket.

Here is the idea .. shown with a round piece of metal to fill the gap, but a
square, rectangle, or triangle would work, too.

Wonder if a crows foot would work? Have to adjust the torque with the use of... math... more leverage :blueangel:

Welding a nut on an old rag joint sounds like a good idea, but since
I don't have a welder, will have to take it to a shop and have them weld
the nut. Anyone else have any other ways to adjust the steering box?

Ship it to me and I'll weld the nut on for you. You pay for shipping and send the nut & joint. I'm in CT so you'll get it back in a day or two.

Thanks for the offer. I did come up with a solution. Used a 12 point
deep socket that fit as snug as possible. Then drilled hole in the side of it
and ran a tap thru. Put in a machine screw and tightened it up against
the flat spot on the worm shaft.
