Was that collector pipe custom made. Will these pipes work with the stock manifolds? How long did the install take and was it a PITA? What length did you buy? How do they sound tone wise? Throaty, loud what? What is the quality like? Thickness of the material and how is the chrome finish? Are you gettin' what you pay for? What about warrenty?
Thanks.
Funvette, Sorry so long getting back to you, the pipes will work with stock manifolds, just have to make a pipe to connect from the new pipe to the manifolds. I have not installed them yet so cant answer how long that takes. The length I bought was 63 inches which is perfect anything longer would not work. The chrome finish looks very good and they are a good value for the money. Also they did not have a warranty on the chrome finish, did say not to run the car too lean as that would make them blue faster.
Hey if any of you guys are interested in "REAL" Hooker sidepipes (headers only). I'll be selling mine soon for a new pair. I was under the car last night and I noticed the right side header on one of the tubes there is a 3" x 2" dent on the horizontial part of the tube behind the front tire and on the left the same but much smaller. They are black . All you have to do is buy the 4" round collector tubes. I even have mufflers for the tubes that I DO NOT use any more.
Lotahp I would be interested in the mufflers. They are the slip-in kind for 4'' pipe correct? Are they used? Are they the reverse flow hookers or the straight through design? And how much are you asking?
Thanks
JohnS_77, Thanks, Yes the inlet pipe fits a 2 inch outside diameter pipe, a little restrictive but what the heck, my motor makes about 465hp so I can probably spare a few ponies and still kick butt!!!!!
the other tubes on the collector are they welded shut at the end of the pipes?
Just wondering if its possible to connect to two pipes to not stop the flow so much.
Not trying to cut them up 467-Ratman but they are fake , small , restrictive and loud. A good 3 inch under the car exhaust is alot quieter and flows alot better.
YOu may think going deaf is a joke but it can happen, will happen partly from sitting over those pipes.
I kept a set on for a few month then decided my hearing was more important.
They do look nice at first glance but at any car show the first thing I do after giving the top side a once over is get down on my knees and see what is done underneath. 3 dummy pipes per side sticking under the car would do it for me.
I might be wrong and all 4 pipes are hooked up but I don't think so.
Enjoy them and disregard my opinion. I just don't like fake side pipes.

i suppose if you were going to show the car that would be an issue...
mine is a daily driver...i drive it to work every day and IF i do show it, it is only in the park at festivlas etc here in my home town...nothin too official!
nobody here cares.. :)
as far as being loud goes...these pipes are NOT loud at all...
except for at WOT...then, yes, they DO speak up!
but under normal driving conditions...they are not loud at all...
he will see soon and will be atesting to that fact, im sure...
of course...my hearing is shot from too much loud rock and roll in my younger years anyway! :jester
I'm older Signguy and wish I had taken better care of my hearing. It gets anoying when you are always says WHAT??. Half the time people say something to me and it goes right on past. I just keep agreeing.
My exhaust is not quiet, it is a full 3 inch but I can outrun it. It is also alot further from my head. I tried the side exhaust but it was just too loud right beside my ears. After a 1/2 hour on the expressway my ears were ringing and next day talking on the phone was like being in a tunnel.
Protect your hearing, YOu will need it some day.
My hearing took a big hit back in the late 70's with some great rock and roll too. As for the Vette, mine sounds very loud right now with my existing setup, I do remember driving my car for a few days before we hooked up the exhaust system with just the headers on, that was LOUD!!! One friend of mine called my car EVIL, I took that as a compliment! I know the pipes are not the real deal but most of my true friends will take them for what they are, just good fun. Thanks to all for your comments and sugestions, and dont worry I am not taking anything to serious!
I have the "REAL DEAL" and i personally love them. The sound and looks are the best. If i had to do it again i prolly would have went with the "fake" ones. They would have saved me money and they arnt really fake. they are exactlyy what they say they are. Exhaust pipes that are on the side of the car. Works for me.
A wise man once told me "You get what you pay for!" First of all you can not compare those to Hooker. The Hooker header is one piece, all the way out to the side of the car and then the 4" collector slides onto the header. It is a TRUE 4 into 1 exhaust system . At $204, what kind of chrome plating job do you think is done on those pipes.
Okay....I'm not disagreeing with you.....but what's this ?!? http://www.holley.com/HiOctn/ProdLin...A/Sidemnt.html
Quote from Holley / Hooker webpage --> "The classic Hooker 4-into-1 (NOTE: 3 tubes are dummies) collectors utilize huge 2-1/8" diameter primaries mandrel bent to maintain a consistent inside diameter for maximum flow. "
3 tubes are dummies !?!? ....and at that price ! WTF ?
stingraymaniac, The set that I bought were from JCwhitney, they sell for about 200 bucks plus shipping. They look like the 4 into one style that Hookers makes. The real deal from Hooker comes with headers and side pipes, and in chrome sell for about 1200 bucks.
Man, this has been a heated discussion. I guess sidepipes are like elbows, everybody has two. Everybody has opinions and budgets so to each his own.
