i too was impressed by their weight and quality...especialy for the price!
as far as being too loud...they are not really...
they actually have a nice, deep, throaty sound...
now...if (when) you really stomp on it they can get loud but under "regular driving conditions they are not really...
i think you will be impressed...
let us know!
next hold your pipes up where they are going to go...i put some blocks of wood under them so that i could stand back and have a look...
one thing i did was mount them quite far back so that the "fake" pipes in the front showed as little as possible...
once your panels are removed you can plainly see the frame and where the mounts will be going onto it...
with the brackets flat against the frame, raise the pipes as high as they will go...the bolt that holds the pipe to the mount will be right up against the frame on the bottom...
now you can choose how you want to actually attach the mounts to the car (frame)...i chose to weld the mounts to the frame as i once had a 68 vert with them bolted on and the vibration kept losening them up all the time...a real PITA...
if you choose to weld them as i did mark the mount holes and around the mount itself as a guide and remove the pipes from the brackets and weld the mounts on...
do not try to weld them with the pipes attached as i 1st did as you will probably, accidently strike the pipe with the welder and put a mark on it as i did! :mad
next bolt up the pipes, minus the collector and head to the muffler shop...
the only thing i didnt really care for was they fit of the collector into the pipe...
1...make sure that when the shop installs them that they have the collector ALL THE WAY INTO THE PIPE...
if you dont...you will not have a good seal and you will hear a slight exaust "leak" sound coming from them...
another tip is...to help aliviate that, i took some alum tape left over from doing my refectex job and i put one, SINGLE layer around the inside of the mouth of the pipe to tighten up the clearance there...
DO NOT wrap it around the collector as when you insert it into the pipe, it will tend to "shave" it off...put the tape inside of the collector...
one other thing is that you will have to trim your rocker panels...
i know...i didnt like doing that either but it must be done if you want them back on the car...
my advise there is to trim at a minimum...you can always take more off if needed (as i did twice) but once trimmed of, you cant add it back on!
good luck and ask me if you have any further questions...
and remember...WE WANT PIX!!!
oh ya...as an afterthought...to help hide the "fake" front pipe, i bought a couple straight 2" ID chrome extentions at auto zone and put them on them...
they are a VERY tight fit so you will have to...
1...file down the indentations inside the extension where the set screws went thru it...
2...with a hack saw...cut down the center of it (right between the screw holes) about 2" and spread it just a hair...
3...slip it on 1/2" or so with the slit on the bottom and then from underneath, i ran a 1/2" self drilling, hex head screw up thru both pipes to hold it on...
works like a charm :)
here are some pix of that...(sorry but i didnt take any pix of the actual install)

So only one pipe actually connects from the manifolds?
and the others are for looks?
Great price, great looks and how about durability?
I can't believe that is a J C Whitney product.
