Default Temperature sending unit for 79

I need a temp sending unit for my 79. Parts store doesn't carry one but chevy does but it's 45$. I tried a generic one for a SBC but the gauge just pegged out. Anybody know of one that will interchange ?

I went to autozone and Orielly's and they didn't have it and could not even order it. They told that part was unavailable! :banghead:

Take a little bit of fine sandpaper and clean up the female brass connection to brightness. Put a little bit of WB-40 on the connection and reinstall. My connection used to peg off right after 5 months of winter storage and that was my routine solution.

Try this place http://www.lectriclimited.com/switch...al_devices.htm

I used to know the ohm rating at temperature for the temperature sensors, but I can't find it. If you can find out what the rating is you should be able to get a parts store to cross reference it for you. Napa and most other parts stores actually have a book that you can look for sensors by the ohm reading at a specific temp.

I bought one from Chevy for $8 or $9. Is the 79 different than 78?
