I've decided that I'm not equipped to keep up with this car anymore. Every time I need to buy something that costs more than $20 I get nagged by the wife. I'm just sick of it. The really funny part about all of this, is that she eventually caves in and lets me get what I want, but I never hear the end of it. I'm reminded daily that I get everything I want, and asked constantly am I happy with what I just blew a bunch of money on etc. So now I'm getting crap about paying shipping on a drill press that someone is going to GIVE me. I actually feel guilty about the car now.
I really love my wife, and I've decided that it's either going to be cars or her, and I choose her.
Sooo... I think it's time to sell the car. I just need to know how much a NOM car like mine is worth. It has a hell of a drivetrain in in and the body is in decent shape. The interior is brand new for the most part. At this point, all it needs is the steeroids installation finished (can't do that without a drill press at this point) and a paint job, although the paint currently is decent enough to keep.
Sounds like your wife is a control freak. It will not get better after you get rid of the car. She will view that as confirmation that she is right. After that it will get worse until you you have to ask her permission before you sneeze. Please take a long hard look at what is going on.
Steve,
As this is not an "agreed value" appraisal for insurance purposes I would just look in the local Yellow Pages. You are not looking for an appraiser acceptable to your insurance company but just a basic guide as to value, both for yourself and a prospective vendor. I would not steep too low in competence (e.g. the corner garage) but find someone with some professional credentials as attested to by years in business and acceptance by insurance companies in general. Figure on about $100.00. Good luck! These cars are money pits. I started the hobby later in life after more pressing matters such as mortgages were out of the way. The financial demands of such an expensive hobby can cause stress on a family. You are making a wise decision but do not be surprised if the bug re-emerges at a later date!
As Paul said, since this is not for insurance purposes...there are MANY variables to consider...condition, miles, originality, region, etc...
I wouldn't use any inspector...
see http://vettefinders.com/index.cfm?fu...ceGuide3&Gen=3
look at other vettes like yours and in your region to give you an idea of the value...once you know, you'll have to decide (hopefully in the negative)...can I give up this car for that $$?
If you love your car as much as most of us, you'll decide you've spent too much time and money to let it go fur current value!
And always remember...a vette is easier to work on than a wife!!!
I did just that in 95 with the 70 L-46 vert. Biggest mistake I made, well except marrying my ex. Think hard, long and kissing hard. Zwede may have came off harsh but he is 100% right and I have to agree with him. No offense to you or your wife.
Once it's gone it's gone including all your sweat and tears. Money means little to me, time spent well means everything.
Steve, I bought my car not far from you and had an appraisal done and I believe the guy was from Charles Town. I will dig up his name and number and post it later. Bill.
I go through the "WIFE" thing at least once a week. Unfortunately you have to learn to sneak.. I get parts delivered to my store instead of home, I order them COD, not on a credit card, and if she should see any new parts, NO part is over $50 unless it's real "big" :lolg: then it's $100. I DO NOT talk $$$ of parts when she is around. As far as appraisals go, I think they are ONLY good for collecting $$$ from insurance companys (as long as you have proper coverage) God forbid something should happen. I just had my car appraised by a "professional". I'm honeat with myself and I DO NOT think I can get $29,500 for my car if I were to sell :skep: . You need to look around locally and see what Vettes SOLD, at what price and what DID NOT sell, at what price & condition. I Know I would get more for my car if marketed nationally (ebay) than locally, only because there are "lota" corvettes down here and out all year-round. So they are taken for granted.
Definitly try NOT to sell the car. If you have to, let it sit for a few months or a year. Who knows maybe she'll ask you (after awhile) to bring it back out & go for a ride. I'm sure you've heard all those stories on "How I wish I had never sold my Corvette" Good Luck
Steve, took a look at your BIO. Your 26 with a SWEEEEET BB 69 Vette. If YOU earn the $$$ you can spend it . Unless she is some outragouslly looking HOTTIE  I would keep the car. On second thought I would still keep the car 'cause it's easier to got another "hottie". S**t at 26 the "M" would wasn't even in my vocabulary. Keep the Vette... there's "LOTA" hot babes out there that would like the car and not be jealous of the car.

Interesting train of thought lotahp, The guy has already says he has 'chosen' his wife and good for him. Lets face it , we all love our 'vettes but somethings are more important, like family and wifes.
I however agree that you may be acting a little hastily and sit back and think about it and maybe explain to your wife how you feel about the car and see what she says, hey things blow over and let it all just calm down and see how the land lies.
