Default Damn Radiator Cap!

My 1980 radiator cap is stuck! Yes, the engine is cold. The cap wouldnt twist off by hand. So I got some locking plyers and I was able to twist it succesfully. But the cap doenst allow me to push it back in to release the locking mechanism. I am afraid of placing too much pressure on the cap as I see the radiator neck area warp as I push in. Any suggestions? Also what are the implications of a stuck cap? I think I have a leak on a single freeze plug, all others look ok, chance these are related?

thanks!

Problems may be related in the sense the cooling system is old. I don't think anyone at GM designed these things to last beyond 10 years.

You might check the threads on radiators and the various repair and replacement options you have. Does the radiator/fluid show signs of corrosion? Your local radiator shop most likely has seen this problem before.

If you did not already do this ...
Push down on the cap HARD and twist off. I know mine takes a bit of downward force to remove it .
Hope this helps ......
