Many here are running 17" wheels. If you stik to 17x8 wheels with 4" backspacing (0 offset) and use 255/50/17 tires you'll be a happy chappie. :yesnod:

That is exactly what I am running. The 255/50/17 tires are getting harder to find now though.

That's my excuse for looking into 18" wheels with 255/45 tires :jester
I think you will find it even harder to get 255/45/18 for you car. 27" OD tires are hard to come by. I did a lot of searching on websites of many, many tire manufacturers, and by limiting myself to 26.5 to 29 inches cut my choices down dramatically. One of the few larger OD tires I found for the 18" wheel was the tire for the Ford Lightning 295/50/18, and at 29inches, this would be best for a rear tire. A matching front tire proved to be a problem.

I have 255/50-17 and am not too worried about finding replacements. If so, I could always step down to 255/45-17 and it looks fine too. (see 71roadster's car)

I am running 275-40 17 Kumo's on 17 x 9.5 Eagle alloys with 4.5" back set. No modifications were necessary. Rims were approx 165.00 from Wheels for less in Texas. Ran the same wheel all around so they could be roatated. Great for auto cross. Car wonders a bit on the highway so I would look into a 5" backset for the front.
They look sweet. Send me an e-mail address and I will send out a pic

I admit I've only been looking at what tirerack.com has to offer. Leaving out all season and truck tires (and different color BFG scorchers) there were 6 different 255/50/17 tires and 19 examples of 255/45/18 tires. So it does look like there would be more selection in 18" diameter.
Boyd 17x8 w/ 4.5BS The tires are 245-50-17 and 255-50-17 rears BFG kdws 1500.00 shipped/mounted/lug nuts. You have to relocate the park brake cable to the inside of the trailing arm and move the bracket to the top of the arm( easy) Steve
