I have a problem with my steering. When I trun to the left, the steering wheel feels "loose", like it moves but the wheels don't turn for the first maybe 1/8" - 1/4" , but it feels "sloppy" after that. :cry Turning to the right is fine, very tight and I feel like I have complete control. I did some research and changed the following parts so.
- New Shocks (Front / Rear)
- New Inner and Outer Wheel bearings (including races)
- New Lower Ball Joints.
- New Front Rotors
- Lower Control Arm Bushings
- Steering Column Coupler (Rag Joint)
- Front End Alignment.
I am thinking about changing the Idler Arm and or the Steering Box, but I don't know if I am headed in the right direction. Is this something I can fix or should I just bite the bullet and take it to a specialist? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
You might try adjusting your manual gear before replacing it. The following paper describes how to make the adjustments with the gear still in the car. If it doesn't improve things, you won't be out anything. http://www.corvettefaq.com/redir.asp?site=149
Make sure the power assist is indeed 'neutral'.....drop off the frame tip of the assist cylinder, and then adjust the controll valve so it's still with engine running....in middle of the stroke, it's the bolt under the dust cover on end of controll valve at the pitman arm input to the drag link....make also very sure you don't have any rascally rabbitt loose tie rod ends...check in all positions for zero play....I seen them sometimes be loose in one position but not another, dunno why, just is.....
wonder about tires....there is such a thing as radial tire pull, so wonder if switching tires side to side may help/alter the symptom....
