Can I add a vacuum booster with new master cylinder lines to the proportioning valve on my 71 coupe, or do I have to buy a kit? It seems to me that the booster should just bolt up behind my current master cylinder, or is there more to it than that? Anyone done this?
Thanks. I saw a kit in one of the many catalogs, but it was twice as expensive as buying a new booster and two new lines. Doesn't sound like it's that simple according to your thread. I'll research some more. Just another item to add to my wish list.
Yes all you need is a power booster and a pb master, make sure that when you do the install that the rod from the brake pedal assembly to the booster is completely horizontal you may have to make some slight adjustments. Also you will need to get a longer line to go from the master to the block
This is always an option and supposedly gives much better pedal feel and response than the vacuum setup. Also, takes up less space in the engine compartment.

:iagree:
It also solves your low engine vacuum problem as its run off the power steering pump !!
:iagree: I tried a few yeras back to go with a vacuum booster before there were kits for it. I found out the firewall is a little different from power to non power cars. Now there are kits for it. I have very little vacuum at idle and did not want the big booster in the way. I installed the Hydroboost system and it performs very well. Small and out of the way and the assist is always there.
