I wanted to put a full size tire in my spare tire carrier, which for me is 235/60/15. However, it won't fit with 30lbs of air in the tire with the standard front bolts. Has anyone else run into this problem and how did you fix it? If you found bigger bolts, who sells them?
I thought a '68 would be the same as in '70 where the spare just sits in a big tub which, in turn, is bolted with a long, single bolt to secure the carrier from the rear. What are the "front bolts"?
The bottom part of the carrier pivits on the two front bolts, and locks in place with the rear. If I were able to find longer bolts for the front, I think the tire would fit properly in the carrier.
I have a 235/60/15 in my carrier.
You don't need longer bolts, just remove the existing ones and put a nut on the thread. Screw them back in and use the nut to lock them about an inch out.
Works for me!
