I wanted a little color in the rear end, the all black and silver seemed a little boring, so since I have this orange and blue thing going on I painted the differential orange.
I also got the driveshaft balanced, painted gloss black and spicer solid U-joints installed for $80, which seemed a pretty fair price for how it turned out.

Re: pumpkins R orange (comp)
That looks dayum good IMO. I wish I would have thought to do something like that with mine when I had it out. Instead I just went with cast blast. Good job, I would not knock any points off on that.
The pumpkin is way too cool..:cool: Now if you are really an old guy, from the 60's or 70's??? Paint the drive line Red and White "Barber Shop Pole" :D :D
Bruce, I have vague recollections of the 70's and do remember seeing orange differential covers on jacked up muscle cars, but can't say I ever heard of barber pole drivelines. I like your thinking though and think it's a good way to knock off a few more pesky points. Maybe black and silver or black and orange spirals on the half shafts. Unfortunately I think my new VBP spring brackets will get in the way of the effect.
BTW I really like the my new VBP differential cross-member reinforcements. They really clean up that connection, and made reinstalling the differential and cross member much easier.
Also, before I reinstalled the differential I drilled four small pilot holes just above the location of the differential mounting bolts so if I ever have to drop the differential again I can drill some larger holes from the inside and remove the differential mounting bolts without dropping the cross-member. Then make an access plate to cover the larger holes.

Yeah - some racing rules require the drive shaft be white. That way when you spit it out on the track the other drivers can see it. The barber pole stripe is just for fun.
I like it. By the time you get to zero points you'll be really happy with the way your car turned out  BTW, how did you manage to thoroughly clean that third member to prep for painting? Mike
Mike, that's my goal 0 points. The third cross member on my car wasn't that bad. I sprayed it with degreaser then pressure washed it then scrubbed it with degreaser and a scotch brite pad. The only thing left after 30 years of grime was gone was bare metal. I used a long piece of sandpaper to get the top and hit the whole frame with every size wire brush known to man.
This pic is after the scrubbing:
Then I sprayed it all with por-15's metal ready, rinsed it then painted it with por-15, then after the paint had set for 3-5 hours I top coated it with rustoleum satin from a rattle can. I actually painted the entire underside, fiberglass and all, with the rustolem. The floorboards and front fire wall were then painted with Ace industrial aluminum paint to help reflect exhaust heat.
