I ran a set of coopers on a truck and they were great....BUT i ran a set on my car and they were crap. Lasted ok. but were weather tempramental and spongey
I've not tried them on my Vette but I've had a set on my Chevy CK2500 pickup that I drive @300mi/week. I've had them for 70K miles and still have lots of tread left. Possibly the compound might be a little to stiff for a performance tire. However, I'll bet Cooper offers something for our Vettes. As far as pricing goes, the ones on my truck were actually priced about the same as the equivalent Goodyears. Me thinks tires are like about like everything else...expect to pay a good price for something that will last and perform good, routine maintenance.
Interesting comments. Reviewing the archives it seems the BFG's are the "in" tire. Just looking at other options. I have had good success from the Dunlop GT Qualifier's in the past, on Vettes and other cars as well. The one time I had BFG's were on a pu and they were terrible. A teaspoon of water on the road was cause for massive amounts of spinning. I will admit that was before they changed the tread design to its current one.
Pep Poys sales personnel claim that their house brand tires are made by Cooper.
Assuming they are not lying to me... on many occasions...
I have the Pep Boys Z-Rated Futura's on my Mustangs (rated 140mph) and their Sport tires on my Silverado.
The truck tires blow out if you run over a toad turd.
I've had at least 3 blow-outs from hitting minor road debris.
Sidewalls are extremely spongy as posted above.
I have Cooper Cobras in my 78 Vette now. The previous owner put them on. I have drivin on them for two years now, and they haven't changed since the day I bought the Vette. They need to be replaced, and from the feedback I received on the forum, I will most likely go with BFG's. :flag
I have a set of Cooper Cobra G/T's on my 79 L-82 and they seem to be fine. They are going on their third year and I just added air for the first time since new. I run them at 30 psi on front and 28 psi on rear and they do fine on wet and quiet with good traction in the dry. Granted I don't autocross or anything like that, overall I am pleased with them.
I just put a set on my SUV, much better than the 2 previous sets of Goodyears (RTS & ATS). I am looking at changing from my T/A'a tp Indy's (255/15) this year as I find my 245/15 BFG T/A's scarey if I get caught in even the lightest amount of rain and they do not hook up for me either. Best thing about them is that they are round as far as I am concerned, but with 15" tires there are so few options.
I run the Cooper Discover tires on my truck and so far I've had no problem with them. It's GMC 1 ton dually, 4x4, no posi, and I plow with it and I've only had to use the 4x4 a hand full of times. I bought them from a very good friend of mine who runs his own tire shop and he highly recommended them, he said he has put them on hundreds of trucks, almost all with good results. He's not specifically a Cooper dealer either, he stocks every major brand. I dont' know how their performance tires are though. Just my 2 cents
my parents have a set of coopers on their tahoe they are 275/16s
i have always been a fan of bfgs but the original bfgs on her tahoe (not factory, they came with the conversion wheels) dry rotted in the first 10k miles, chunks were litterally falling off.
