I have a Q jet off of a 78 3/4 ton Chevy truck that I would like to use on my 77 C3. I would like to know what I need to do to set this carb up to work the best on my car. the numbers are as follows
carb ....17058213
jets .....64C
main jet needles ....40B
other needles (don't remember what they are called) have DP stamped on them.
I also need to find an electric choke housing so I can switch over to electric choke.
The carb is in pretty good shape but needs a rebuild.
Thanks
I rebuilt my carb, it wasn't as diffcult as I thought it would be. Definetely read as much as possible so you learn how to do rebuild and tune the carb properly. You will probably want to richen the mixture by putting in larger primary jets and/or smaller primary rods. You may want to put in smaller secondary rods as well. Its important to verify your ignition system works perfectly before you start messing around with your carb.
A few links for ya: http://www.corvettefaq.com/listing.asp?group=1&sub=11http://www.buickpartsdirectory.com/carbs.htmhttp://www.carbs.net/
Follow the advice of Lars. Try a forum search as well.
I've rebuilt my Q-jet and have been experimenting with re-jetting. I can't remember what jets and rods were in it (written down at home) but it was way lean. A previous owner installed true dual exhaust with no cat and probably didn't re-jet.
Right now I am running 75 jets with 43 rods andCK secondary rods. It's running much better, we'll find out how well tomorrow at the Eckler's Corvette Challenge. This might give you a starting point.
My car is a basically stock L48 except for true dual exhaust with no cat, through manifolds.
Thanks for the info.
I also should have asked for good performance setups. My engine is the 77 stock 350 except for the Comp XE262H-10 cam and Performer manifold. I will also add headers and dual exhaust this spring. Is anyone running a similar combination and know the numbers on their rods and jets?
Thanks for the help
