I am getting ready to replace my headlight switch on my '75 and was wondering if there are any tricks of the trade to make this go somewhat easy? Well as easy as anything can go on a C3. Anyone done this project and taken pictures as they went along?
I have replaced the switch twice. The easiest, for me, is to lower the steering column, two bolts, and remove the instrument pad to access the switch. Pulling the instrument pad out is not easy because the wiring behind the inst' pad is held onto the back of the tach with a folded over metal strap. Once the wires are loose you can pull the pad out a few inches and access the switch. The pad will only come back about three inches before the speedo cable and tach cable get tight. There are two vacuum lines on the back of the switch used to control the headlights up/down position.

Thanks Roger. I think this one will have to wait until the weather warms up a little. We have snow on the ground here and expecting more on Wednesday. Friday is supposed to be in the 50's so I think I will give it a try then.
Forgot to mention the **** and its shaft come out after you can push a button on the side of the switch. The black plastic trim just unscrews.
We got three inches of snow last night.
I changed my switch last year in the winter. A heatable garage sure is nice.

Re: Headlight Switch Replacement (Ron 75 L48)
Remove the screws holding the speedo/tach dash panel. There are two in the door jam, three across the top, and two or three holding the center bezel to it.
Pull it back from the door jam and out from the top dash pad. You will see the switch. Reach to the inside of the switch and push in on the button and hold it in. While holding it in pull the headlight **** and rod out.
The switch has a nut with a slot in it holding it to the dash pad. Needle nose pliers will remove it if you don't have the correct tool. Remove the nut and you can remove the switch from the leftside of the dash. The switch has a plug and two hoses on it, watch where they go.
When installing the new switch hook up the vacuum hoses and the wire plug, also install the rod and ****. Start the car and pull the rod if everything works remove the rod and install the switch back in the dash.
I can change this switch from start to finish in less than a half hour.
Thanks Ed. 1/2 hr? Come on over and I'll buy the beer! :D :D :D Friday looks like the day I'm going to do this project. I have that day off and it looks like it is going to be good weather to boot! :D
