What do you guys think? I'm putting a '70 body on my '69 to replace the wasted birdcage. The car is getting a set of ACI flares as well.
I'm not too crazy about the mudflaps and really don't like the fact that the marker lights on the rear won't match the marker lights on the front. I can graft in sections from the '69 lower rear quarters to make it look like a '69 but I'm worried about body flex since this is going to be an autocross car and running solid aluminum body mounts.
Re: 70' Firewall back body on '69, mudflaps? (reidry)
Sounds like you'll be driving her hard.
My opinion is that adding fender flares will destroy the 'originality' of the 69
anyway, so why not just leave the 70 flaps in the rear. It could be beneficial,
keeping burnt rubber and rocks off of the body - never mind the added
strength.
As far as body flex, I don't think you have any concerns with the rear
fiberglass quarters. the only thing they hold up is themselves.
PS - if you decide to go with grafting, I would love first crack at the 70
rear marker lights. PLEASE !!!
Re: 70' Firewall back body on '69, mudflaps? (reidry)
I have a 71 body on my 69. From the side it is hard to tell, the markers look OK together. From the back I wish I had grafted the 69 exhaust panels on the sides, I like the round tips much better than the rectangles of the 71.
