Thanks for the enthusiasm everyone, its truly great to be back. Unfortunately I was only with the car for two days before I had to travel on business for the week. Looking forward to getting home.

Johnny, I’ve seen you around town a few times in the past year. Your car looks as sweet as ever, you must be pushing close to 200K by now. We will have to get together for an updated twins photo in the near future.

In regards to Mid-America having the stripes available for the two-tones; no they don’t. The stripes that are available are either for the 78 S/A or Pace Car or for the 82 CE. Also, only the pin stripes are available for the CE, not the hood or side fade stripes. No stripes are available for the two-tone cars. If you have one of these cars, keep it in good shape, they are irreplaceable. If someone knows different, please send me a link to whom ever offers them.

As for the Z06 story, an 03 Z06 first showed up in the local paper at the Chevy dealer in late August of last year. I watched the price fluctuate between $43K and $39,900. It was black on black with the HUD, a pretty neat option. When it hit $38,000 in mid-December I headed to the dealer with a check book and title for my 2001 Mitsubishi Spyder GT in hand. My only concern was why the Z06 had been sitting on the lot for almost four months. It showed 18K miles and the car fax came back clean. I asked for a printed copy of the service records (had it been re-ringed?). I never saw this document from the dealer; in my opinion they were delaying, that was strike one. The best deal they would give me on my Spyder was about 5K under what the Kelly Blue Book showed as the trade in value. I knew I wouldn’t get the top price but 5K is larger delta than I was willing to accept, that was strike two. After driving the Z06 I was becoming emotionally attached. My wife pointed out what I was missing, I was taking a huge loss on my Spyder plus giving the dealer a sizeable amount of cash and would still need a daily driver replacement (I wasn’t going to drive the Z06 daily). I then realized a Z06 did not fit my situation, strike three. The salesman told me the car was going to auction after I broke the deal. In retrospect, I made the right decision. I’ve kept a great daily driver that I can drop the top and take my wife and two daughters along for a ride in. I also have a classic ’82 that is a blast to drive and the best part I wont see one on the road everyday...and no payments! Also, IMHO, an 03 Z06 will be passé once the C6 comes out as there is only a 5 HP difference between the two cars. Granted the 03 is a 50th anniversary car but production numbers show one in four of the 03s were Z06s.
