Need a little help with a decision on my RH mirror guys, if you would.
Problem is, being out here in OZ(car is still left hook) and being on the wrong(right : ) ) side of the road i feel that i really should have a RH mirror.
But..........i am finding it hard to bring myself to drill two holes in a perfectly good door and destroying a bit of originality :(
It's only hard because i'm a bit of a stickler for originality and hate seeing goood orig' gear barstardised :D
Your thoughts guys?.....maybe this should have been a POLL :)
I believe comments from you guys will sway me either way.....majority rules :cry
Re: Passenger side mirror, what to do? (Secret Squirrel)
i added one to mine,i couldnt stand not being able to see whats coming up on my side, plus i think it gives it a balanced look now with both of them installed.
Re: Passenger side mirror, what to do? (Secret Squirrel)
I also added one. In your case, I would consider it a safety issue and would put one on. Of course as you stand there with the drill in hand you will have on more moment of indecision.
My car did not have both from the factory. A previous owner had added it though. One more thing I didnt have to do. Cause I woulda. Because it was an option from the factory, I dont see how adding one is butchering anything. Just get the correct mirror and put it on correctly and no one will ever know. Other than you maybe.

I need to put one on my 75, same problem- I figure if I get hit or I pull into someone because of not seeing them, this would take more from the original than just adding a mirror.
Re: Passenger side mirror, what to do? (Secret Squirrel)
I bought one for mine and have never put it on because I didn't want to drill the holes in the passenger door. I still have it in a box on the "extra parts" self in my garage. Now you have me thinking about installing it again! :seeya

Passenger mirrors were not a factory installed option on '73s, they were dealer installed. The orignal owner of my car had the dealer install one prior to delivery.
In '75 my car came from the factory with only a LH mirror BUT there was a dealer option to add a RH mirror. It's checked off on the dealer's original paperwork as 994413. So I suspect that dealers were adding RH mirrors for a number of years.....
put it on if something happens your going to be pissed I don't think its going to hurt the originality much whose going to know? I think your making it better than factory all new cars come standard with 2 mirrors. Just my opinion

Besides, it's not brain surgery to plug holes in fiberglass if you ever change your mind. I don't the a judge is going to find a way to check inside the door for evidence of hole patching. My $.02.
Even with the second mirror there is still a considerable blind spot. It is on a 73 anyway. Be carefull and dont get too confident once you add the second mirror. I still swing my head around and look real quick just before I switch lanes. After all two mirrors are better than one but they still have a small field of view.
