I have a 76 and it looks like the last owner put in new carpet. It came with a black 3 way strap wich i beleive is for holding the T tops secure when they are off the car and stored in the back behind the seats. I can see the one hook that is beween the two seats but can not find the other two. Part of the problem is im not sure where to look or maybe the last owner did not put them back in when he put the carpet in. Where are the suppost to be? does anyone know where i can get more?
Thanks
Good question Geoff. Mine is the same way as yours. I had one guy at a car show last year tell me the T Tops do not belong in the back area for storage. I never did get an answer to my question which was then where do I put them ?
I have the same strap as you with no clue as to how to strap'em down
On my 72, the three clips of the t top strap attach to the center hook that you have already found, and the other two go to hooks mounted in the back of the storage area. Fairly easy to see unless the PO covered them up with the new carpet. IIRC the hooks are mounted on the side of the fender wells. I almost never put my tops in the back of the car. I usually leave them in the garage.

I purchased the "t-top bags" and store them in the bag on top of eachother in the rear compartment. The "bag" prevents the t-tops from clanking together and causings damage (I wish the previous owener of my vette had thought of that).
My '81 came with T-top bags for securing the tops when they're removed from the roof. I once attempted to locate an optional factory T-top holder for my car but had no luck. Everyone says they're very hard to find. Any ideas where I might locate one?
My car has the strap, and it is very handy. I put the tops in the bags and use the strap... the tops stay put. Whoever said the tops are not meant to be back there was incorrect. They fit too perfectly otherwise. But, keep in mind I have the fastback rear window and not the earlier vertical rear window.
The strap hooks in on the rearward part of the inner fender hump on both sides. It comes together at a point, goes through a tightening clasp, and buckles down to a metal retainer that is in between the middle storage compartment and the armrest console (on the ridge).
If I get a chance, I'll take pics of mine and post them later.
I put my t-tops in the back and put a towel in between them then a towel on top and strap them in so the don't move. I am alsways afraid to leave the house without them in case we get a freak rain storm. I should buy the t-top bag sometime. Eric
Eric, if you want to save some money and have original equimpment, the bags are good. If you want good protection, lots of people here recommend the t-top suitcase.
I like the bags for originality, but I am always worried about the snaps on the bags scratching the tops.
I didn't have bags for my car when I bought the car, I went to a locat salvage yard and bought the T-top bags from a 3 gen (82-92) Camaro/Firebird for $ 20. They are leather out side and flece lined and have two compartments. They have the GM logo on the outside. The tops fit very well in this bag.
My 76 AIM shows that the strap hooks on the rear wheel wells are mounted UNDER the carpet and the carpet is slit to allow the hook to protrude so you can hook it with the strap clip. The hook above the E-brake console is originally mounted on top of the carpet. When I replaced my carpet I mounted the hooks on top of the carpet for better access and looks.
I use my t-top storage case from Mid America, item #606-108. Works well and fits very snug with my strap securing it. More easy to insert and take out, then with the original snap bags. :yesnod:
