Default Broken Wire Repair

My blower motor quit working and I found the problem. One of the old original wires was bent and the plastic covering just cracked/rotted at the bend, and there is not longer a good connection. Is there a way to just repair the place that is broke, or should I rewire the whole thing?

Default Re: Broken Wire Repair (Andrew)

There are many ways to repair a midspan wire break. Here's what I do if you are not concerned about NCRS stuff but want a solid fix.
1. Cut it back a little on each side of the break.
2. Strip both ends.
3. Get some waterproof shrink-wrap, solder and a soldering Iron.
4. Get the same gauge wire if its power for the blower then it is large gauge wire.
5. Cut the new wire a little longer than the span that needs to be repaired and strip back both ends of this piece also.
6. Place some shrink-wrap on both ends of the old wire away from where you are going to be soldering.
7.Twist the new wire into the old wire but do it so its in line with the old wire not like you would wire your ceiling fan.
8. Solder the two ends.
9.Slide the shrink-wrap over the solders and shrink.
10. Optional: You could buy some restoration type engine compartment wiring harness tape and wrap the whole repair.
Its easy :yesnod: no?
