:iagree: Anyone have any tips on finding what you are looking for in the AIM?
Yes, here is a tip. Notice that the AIM "sections" correspond to a great extent to the section numbers in the service manual. Go take a look - put them side by side, open to the table of contents. Section 2 = Frame, Section 6 = engine, Section 9 = steering. But with the AIM, most (or all?) options are in the back. So steering is steering, section 9, but POWER steering is N40, or section N at the back of the AIM.
Recognizing this organization helps a bit. As mentioned, I think someone did put together an index for the 69 AIM which you can purchase. Not sure about other years. :) MJ
I go nuts flipping through an assembly manual when I see there is no search function!!
:iagree: There seems to be little rhyme or reason how these pages are set up, but I found it helped me tremendously when I added dividers with tabs and labels to sort of make my own index. I can find what I'm looking for a lot easier now.
Well said Doc! Finally a post I can agree with 100%! :D
I've got a whole library of manuals for my '72 and even bought the repro owners manual just in case. You can never have too much written data and resources to consult. If I can't find an answer or diagram in one manual, I can usually look in the others and find it. Besides, they make great reading while sitting on the "throne"
I have also added dividers, and find that very helpful.

:iagree: I have also found that consulting different manuals often makes it a lot easier to understand a project. Sometimes slightly different wording of the same statement will turn on the old light bulb.
Dep,
On a long winter's evening nothing better than a warm fireplace, a cold Guinness, a comfortable chair and a Corvette technical manual to pass the time ;) .
here is one for the 1970 AIM, although I have to admit it doesn't look exactly like what I think of as an index... I guess you can use the "find" feature to look up any item and get the page number... :) MJ http://corvetteforum.net/c3/1970regi...aimstatic.html
I had to do a little memory refresh - I have a problem forgetting things!
My 68 AIM has MidAmerica Designs logo on every page, and I didn't buy it from them. They are the ones who sell the indexes for every model year AIM, at 9.99 each. I have never seen their indexes (sp?) so I don't know how useful they are.
