Priming engine oil.
I'm using the oil priming rod that is not just the rod-distributor. I has a large bushing which fits right into the lifter valley floor.
Anyway, I'm getting oil to the first two cylinder pushrods on each side(closest to the distributor) but not to the cylinders near the water pump. I ran the drill about 5 minutes and got a pressure of 30. I already burned out an old 3/8" drill.
Do I need to keep running the drill until I get oil out the other pushrods?
Sorry that I don't understand more about what you've been doing to your engine, but unless you've got a major oil blockage, you engine should be primed just fine (given that you've worn out your drill already).
How about a real mechanic chime in hear and help us all out with what might possible block an oil passage?
You are doing fine. You can't really build much up 'pressure' at all with the drill - but you are actually looking for FLOW. If you ran the drill long enough to see oil at any lifter, you are done - fire it up!

Re: Priming engine oil. (pws69)
I thought of rotating Eddie, I couldn't do that while I was drilling at the same time. Maybe I'll get one of my daughters to help me later! :D They're busy SLEEPING!
I did try again with a 1/2" 24V cordless and reached 40lb at maximum drill speed. I think I musta got some moly grease inside a couple of the pushrod holes during assembly. I cleaned them out and rotated the engine a few times. I have to recharge the cordless battery, clean out the pushrod holes and try again. Pump is working great though.
I'm not ready to fire her up though, I just wanted to make sure the oil is flowing properly before I proceed.
Keep priming it, eventual the oil will come out all 16 pushrods, it takes a while with a small block so I imagine it would take even longer with a big block. Now think if you just cranked the sucker up without priming, what parts would be without oil and for how long?   I like to see oil coming out all those pushrods to let me know oil is flowing to at least all the area I can check, gives me the warm fuzzies. :)
Unless you are using a high speed drill that does not slow down when the oil pressure comes up you will not spin the oil pump fast enough to put out enough oil volume to push oil to the front cylinders push rods. Provided that you coated everything with assy lube, then priming it till you have oil pressure is sufficiant. To much priming can actually cause problems as it will wash of the assy lube, especially on the cam bearings.
